A Humble Beginning
The origins of Hewson Brothers Building Supply can be traced back to the early 1900’s. Founder, George Hewson started Hewson & Potter Plastering in Brantford, Ontario. Then, after several years of success, the name was changed to Hewson & Son in 1946 when George’s son Leonard joined the company.
After years of working on the contracting side of the business, the decision was made in 1983 to move into distribution. Hewson Brothers Supply Limited was established. After that, our vision of providing top-notch building materials and exceptional customer service gained us a great reputation! The success of the company continued throughout the years as each generation evolved to meet the needs of the market through expertise in plastering, contracting and supply.
A Tradition of Excellence
Over the past four decades, Hewson Brothers weathered economic ups and downs, adapting to the changing needs of the construction industry. Furthermore, the company has remained steadfast in its commitment to delivering high-quality products and unwavering support. In 2013, Hewson Brothers Supply acquired Prestige Acoustics Limited.
The acquisition of Prestige Acoustics by Hewson Brothers made perfect sense. At that time, both companies were members of the Torbsa buying group (now AD Building Supplies – Canada) and were also Armstrong Commercial Ceiling and Wall dealers. These pre-existing vendor partnerships made the acquisition seamless and quickly expanded the products and service that could be provided to the customers in the region.
After 6 successful years of operating under two separate names, the decision was made to focus on developing a more unified approach. In 2019, Hewson Brothers Supply Limited and Prestige Acoustics re-branded under Hewson Brothers Building Supply. The smaller Waterloo location was closed, and a new larger facility was opened in North Cambridge to compliment that already established Brantford yard.
The next phase of expansion was to the GTA region after several years of acquisitions and consolidation left fewer distribution options for the Toronto customer base. Contractors were looking for choice in the market, so Hewson Brothers Acoustic Solutions was opened in 2022 in Vaughan Ontario. HB Acoustics specializes in the sales and distribution of leading-edge acoustical ceiling and wall specialty products.
Now, a fourth-generation family-owned company, Hewson Brothers Building Supply has developed into a leading interior finishing distribution company with an extensive fleet of service trucks and expert knowledge of the construction industry. Hewson Brothers has not lost site of what the generations before have done to earn the customers trust. The company continues to focus on face-to-face service provided by a friendly knowledgeable team of staff.
