The construction industry has always been built on people. Skilled trades, knowledgeable professionals, and passionate individuals are what keep our industry moving forward. But today, one of the biggest challenges we face isn’t supply chains or project timelines, it’s the future workforce.
At Hewson Brothers, we believe that supporting workforce development in our local communities isn’t optional, it’s essential to our future in the industry. As a fourth-generation, family-run business, we see it as our responsibility to help shape the next generation of builders, tradespeople, and industry leaders.
That’s why we’re proud to be a founding partner of Legacy Builders Construction Careers Association, alongside our trusted partners at Melloul-Blamey Construction.
Investing in the Future of Our Industry
For over 40 years, Hewson Brothers has been serving communities across Waterloo Region, Niagara Region, Halton Region, and beyond. We’ve seen firsthand how critical skilled labour is to the success of every project, and how the industry must evolve to attract new talent.
Workforce development starts early. If students aren’t exposed to the opportunities within construction and the skilled trades, they may never consider it as a career path. That’s where Legacy Builders is making a real impact.
This program is designed to introduce Grade 8 students to the wide range of careers available in construction, long before they make key decisions about their education and future. By engaging students at this stage, we’re helping open doors to meaningful, rewarding careers that they may not have otherwise explored.
Our Role as a Founding Partner
Being a founding partner of Legacy Builders is something we take seriously. It’s not just about financial support, it’s about active participation.
Through volunteer initiatives, our team members are stepping into classrooms and engaging directly with students across the regions we serve. We’re sharing real-world insights, hands-on knowledge, and personal experiences to help bring the industry to life.
This boots-on-the-ground involvement is what makes the difference. Students don’t just hear about construction, they see the people behind it. They understand the pride, the opportunity, and the long-term potential that comes with a career in the trades.
And as the Legacy Builders program continues to expand into new communities, we’re committed to growing alongside it, reaching more students in the areas we’ve proudly supported for decades.
A Responsibility That Runs Generations Deep
As a fourth-generation family business, we’ve always taken a long-term view. We’re not just focused on today’s projects, we’re thinking about the industry 10, 20, and 40 years from now.
That means investing in people.
It means creating pathways for young individuals to discover careers that are stable, rewarding, and essential to our communities.
And it means working alongside organizations like Legacy Builders to ensure that the next generation is prepared, inspired, and ready to lead.

Building More Than Structures
At its core, workforce development is about building something bigger than buildings, it’s about building futures by inspiring the kids that will one day fill the boots on the jobsites, and giving them the tools to get there.
We’re proud to play a role in that mission. Through our partnership with Legacy Builders, we’re helping to spark interest, create opportunities, and strengthen the foundation of our industry for years to come.
